The Food Guide Pyramid is a general guide created by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to help you choose a healthful diet. It divides foods into five major groups and a "Fats, Oils and Sweets" category. Foods that should form the bulk of your diet are shown in the lower sections of the Pyramid, and foods that should be eaten in smaller amounts are shown in the upper sections. All of the food groups in the pyramid can be part of a healthful diet - it's the relative proportion of each food group that you need to focus on to plan a balanced diet.
